Korission Lake - Alonaki.  Map      

Approximately  4 miles. Allow 2 hours.   For the shorter walk allow 1 hour.

Refreshments:- Tavernas at Alonaki and on the road to the lake.

This walk takes you along a quiet road  passing Lake Korission and then tracks alongside the coast passing Alonaki beach before turning inland and following tracks through olive groves and open clearings. An extension to this walk takes you to  Kanouli beach.

Take the Aghios Matheos road off of the main Moraitika / Lefkimmi  road. After 2.5 kilometres turn left at the sign to Korission Lake. After another 0.8 kilometres turn left again to Korission Lake passing the Castle Gardiki and several greenhouse nurseries until you reach the start.

             

Park on the grass verge just past the greenhouses on the right and just before the Korission / Alonaki sign.

From here turn left along the road signposted Korission Lake. After approximately 10 minutes pass the Family Taverna Spiros on the right and  carry on to reach the lake. Carry on beside the lake ignoring a left and a right turn. On reaching the beach turn right along the track following the coast.

             

After a few minutes the track bears right inland with broom and cistus growing along its sides. At the next junction turn left by a fresh fish sign passing grapevines and several houses. You then pass a left track down to Alonaki Beach and soon walk alongside the sea .before bearing right inland. The track then soon becomes tarmac.

            

After approximately 50 minutes from the start you come to a junction and here turn left along an unmade road. (If you wish to shorten the walk then turn right here instead of left along the tarmac road which takes you back to the start.)

            

Otherwise after turning left along the unmade road carry on along ignoring any right and left hand tracks. Pass a Villa on the left flying 2 Greek flags, the sea to the left and a house on the right with stone griffins guarding the entrance (approx. 1 hour 10 minutes from the start). Soon there are lovely views on the left of the sea and coastline ahead. The track then bears right inland.

              

At the next junction go left passing prickly pears and a few  houses. After approx. 1 hour 20 minutes from the start ignore a left turn (signed beach  and Jenny’s Villa on a tree in front of you) and after a few metres turn right.

             

Follow this track until it bears around to the right to a house. Here go straight on  through the shade of the olive trees.

            

At the next junction follow the main track around to the right and carry on to reach a tarmac road. Here turn right along the road passing the greenhouses on the right and also the S. Livadiotis Winery on the left back to the start.

            

Kanouli Beach

This is an extension to the previous walk. Allow an extra 30 minutes.

When you reach the tree, signed to the Beach and Jenny’s Villa, turn left here and  follow this track  and signs to the beach. You eventually come to the very quiet beach of Kanouli. Then retrace your steps.
